Tournament format and match schedule
The Laver Cup 2026 features five competitive sessions held over three days from Friday 25 September to Sunday 27 September 2026, where the first team to reach 13 points wins the trophy. Matches take place on The O2 arena's custom black hard court, with point values increasing each day to ensure the tournament remains undecided until Sunday afternoon.
Created by TEAM8, the sports management agency founded by Roger Federer and Tony Godsick, the tournament is named in honour of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, the only player to win two calendar Grand Slams. The ninth edition in 2026 brings the competition back to The O2 arena in London for the first time since 2022, when Federer concluded his professional playing career before a packed London crowd.
Tournament week begins on Thursday 24 September 2026 with an Open Practice Day at The O2 arena. Doors open at 11:00 AM, with Team World practising from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM and Team Europe taking the court from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This gives fans a behind-the-scenes view of court conditions and player interviews before competitive play starts.
The competitive tournament comprises five sessions across Friday, Saturday and Sunday:
- Session 1 (Friday Day): Doors open at 11:30 AM, play starts at 1:00 PM. Two singles matches. Wins earn 1 point each.
- Session 2 (Friday Night): Doors open at 5:30 PM, play starts at 7:00 PM. One singles match, one doubles match. Wins earn 1 point each.
- Session 3 (Saturday Day): Doors open at 11:30 AM, play starts at 1:00 PM. Two singles matches. Wins earn 2 points each.
- Session 4 (Saturday Night): Doors open at 5:30 PM, play starts at 7:00 PM. One singles match, one doubles match. Wins earn 2 points each.
- Session 5 (Sunday Day): Doors open at 10:30 AM, play starts at 12:00 PM. One doubles match followed by up to three singles matches. Wins earn 3 points each.
A total of 24 points are available across 12 scheduled matches: 4 on Friday, 8 on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Because 12 points are contested on Sunday alone, no team can win the 13 points needed before the final day. If the scores sit tied at 12-12 after Match 12, a sudden-death doubles match consisting of one regular set with a tie-break decides the championship.
Every match is played as best-of-three sets with advantage scoring. If players split the first two sets, the third set is contested as a 10-point match tie-break. Every player must play at least one singles match across Friday and Saturday, and no player may play singles more than twice. At least four of the six players must play doubles, and pairings cannot be repeated.

| Session 3 (Day) | Saturday 26 Sep 2026 | 11:30 AM | 1:00 PM | 2 singles matches | 2 points |
| Session 4 (Night) | Saturday 26 Sep 2026 | 5:30 PM | 7:00 PM | 1 singles, 1 doubles | 2 points |

Captains, rosters and player matchups
The 2026 Laver Cup is the second for its captains, with French legend Yannick Noah leading Team Europe and eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi leading Team World. Their tactical choices, pairings and court-side coaching will define the competitive drama across all five sessions.
Noah and Agassi took over from Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, who had captained the teams since the first Laver Cup, and made their debut in San Francisco in 2025. Noah brings French Open winning pedigree and renowned team leadership to the European bench, while Agassi delivers analytical insight and competitive drive to Team World.
Team Europe
Team Europe combines proven Grand Slam winners with elite young European talent:
- Carlos Alcaraz (Spain): The multi-surface major champion provides dynamic court coverage and shotmaking versatility in singles and doubles.
- Alexander Zverev (Germany): A long-standing Laver Cup competitor delivering a formidable indoor first serve and baseline consistency.
- Casper Ruud (Norway): Known for disciplined baseline counter-punching, steady composure and strong team bench presence.
- Jakub Mensik (Czech Republic): A rising power hitter whose heavy flat groundstrokes thrive on indoor hard courts.
- Flavio Cobolli (Italy): Brings athletic intensity, quick court coverage and an aggressive forehand suited to team play.
- Rafael Jodar (Spain): A promising young Spanish talent completing Noah's six-man squad.
Team World
Team World arrives with an aggressive, power-oriented roster suited to fast indoor conditions:
- Taylor Fritz (United States): Grand Slam finalist and World anchor, possessing heavy flat hitting and strong indoor court credentials.
- Alex de Minaur (Australia): One of the fastest movers on tour, excelling at defensive transitions and rapid court coverage.
- Ben Shelton (United States): A powerful left-hander with an explosive serve, sharp net reflexes and electric on-court energy.
- Tommy Paul (United States): Brings versatile all-court movement, precision volleying and dependable doubles experience.
- Alexander Bublik (Kazakhstan): An inventive shotmaker with a booming first serve capable of unsettling any baseline rhythm.
- Learner Tien (United States): A composed left-handed prospect offering sharp angles and tactical discipline.
Between points, rivals become vocal teammates, strategising on the bench, offering tactical tips and celebrating key points together. Doubles pairings are revealed shortly before each session, often producing rare partnerships between tour competitors who never team up during the regular ATP season.
VIP hospitality and ticket access

Getting to The O2 arena and travelling back
The fastest way to reach The O2 arena is via the Jubilee line to North Greenwich Underground station, which takes two minutes from Canary Wharf and under fifteen minutes from central London. Uber Boat by Thames Clippers provides a scenic alternative directly to North Greenwich Pier, whereas road traffic around the Greenwich Peninsula is heavily congested on major event days.
Detailed public transport information and service updates can be confirmed directly with Transport for London. Selecting the right travel option depends on your base in London:
The Jubilee Line (London Underground)
North Greenwich Underground station is located directly outside the main entrance canopy of The O2 arena. The Jubilee line provides fully accessible step-free access and frequent train services throughout tournament hours:
- From Canary Wharf: 1 stop, 2 minutes journey time.
- From London Bridge: 4 stops, approximately 10 minutes.
- From Waterloo: 6 stops, approximately 13 minutes.
- From Westminster: 7 stops, approximately 15 minutes.
- From Green Park: 8 stops, approximately 17 minutes.
Following night sessions, thousands of spectators exit into North Greenwich Underground station. While queues are well-organised by station staff, wait times for westbound trains can reach 20 minutes. Staying in Canary Wharf means you avoid central London travel delays and return to your residence within minutes.
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers (River Bus)
For a scenic journey along the River Thames, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers runs regular high-speed catamarans to North Greenwich Pier, situated immediately next to the arena. The RB1 service provides direct links from key piers:
- From Canary Wharf Pier: Eastbound boats take 10 to 15 minutes to reach North Greenwich Pier.
- From Tower Pier or London Bridge City Pier: The river journey takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
- From Westminster Pier: The route takes roughly 40 to 45 minutes, passing Tower Bridge and the Canary Wharf skyline.
Boats feature indoor seating, outdoor viewing decks and licensed bars on board. Passengers can tap in using contactless payment or purchase tickets online in advance. If you require private chauffeur services or tailored river boat transfers across the Thames, request private travel coordination through our AI concierge.
Road Transfers and Chauffeur Pickups
Arriving by private car or black cab requires careful timing. Road access to the Greenwich Peninsula via the Blackwall Tunnel southern approaches is frequently congested before sessions start and after matches end. Dedicated taxi and private drop-off ranks operate near North Greenwich station, but journey times by road from central London can exceed 50 minutes. If using road transfers, allow significant extra buffer time.

Matchday advice and arena etiquette
Spectator entry to The O2 arena requires digital tickets displayed on your smartphone, and attendees should plan to arrive well before the scheduled start times to clear venue security and bag checks. Unlike typical tour events, the Laver Cup blends traditional tennis etiquette during points with an electric team bench atmosphere between games.
To ensure your matchday runs smoothly, keep these practical points in mind:
Session Clearance on Friday and Saturday
If you hold tickets for both the day and night sessions on Friday 25 September or Saturday 26 September, be aware that The O2 arena bowl is cleared entirely between sessions. Once the second singles match of the day session concludes, all spectators must vacate the arena bowl into the surrounding entertainment concourse. Night session doors open at 5:30 PM, requiring re-entry and security scanning. Staying across the river in Canary Wharf makes it easy to return to your apartment to recharge or enjoy dinner away from Peninsula queues.
Digital Mobile Ticketing and Bag Restrictions
All general admission tickets purchased via AXS must be accessed through The O2 app on a mobile device. Printed tickets and screenshots are not accepted at the turnstiles. Ensure your phone is fully charged before departing. The O2 arena enforces a strict bag policy: only small bags no larger than A4 size (approximately 21cm x 30cm x 3cm) are permitted inside. Larger bags and rucksacks must be deposited at the external bag storage facility for a fee.
Tennis Spectator Etiquette
The Laver Cup features a lively arena setting, but standard tennis etiquette applies during live play. Spectators must remain seated while points are underway, movement along aisles is restricted to changeovers, and mobile devices must be switched to silent. Flash photography is strictly prohibited.
