South Kensington in short
- Best for: museums, concerts and a calm base with fast connections.
- Character: white stucco terraces, garden squares, cafés along Bute Street and Old Brompton Road.
- Getting around: South Kensington station (District, Circle and Piccadilly lines), with Heathrow direct on the Piccadilly line.
- Our apartments: a partner apartment is available now by enquiry. Our own South Kensington apartment is planned and not yet open.
The area
South Kensington was laid out after the Great Exhibition, and the institutions that came with it still define it: the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum stand within a few hundred metres of each other, with Imperial College and the Royal Albert Hall behind them.
Away from Exhibition Road the area is residential and quiet. Stucco terraces run down towards Old Brompton Road, the garden squares are private but visible, and the cafés and French bookshops around Bute Street give the area the character that earned it the name of London’s French quarter.
Nearby
Knightsbridge lies to the east, along the south side of Hyde Park. South, beyond Fulham Road, is Chelsea and the river.
Getting around
- South Kensington station serves the District, Circle and Piccadilly lines; the Piccadilly line runs direct to Heathrow in one direction and to King’s Cross St Pancras in the other.
- Gloucester Road, one stop west, serves the same three lines.
- The District line runs to Wimbledon, which matters in the tennis fortnight, and the Piccadilly line runs to the Emirates Stadium at Arsenal.
- Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are at the northern edge, and Chelsea is a walk south.

How a stay in South Kensington is arranged
Our own apartments are in Canary Wharf. An apartment in South Kensington comes from our curated list of luxury apartments across London, arranged by enquiry: you tell the concierge your dates, party and what matters, and our team confirms the apartment, whose it is, what it costs and the terms in writing before you commit to anything.
Two separate things are true here. A partner-sourced apartment in South Kensington can be arranged now, by enquiry, and we tell you whose it is before you book. Our own South Kensington apartment is planned and is not yet open.
Around the stay we coordinate the rest of the visit: a chauffeur or airport transfer, restaurant reservations, a private jet through licensed operators, and hospitality at football, Formula 1 and concerts through providers who hold agreements with the clubs and promoters.
