Chelsea in short

  • Best for: a residential stay with the river, the King’s Road and good restaurants.
  • Character: Georgian and Victorian terraces, garden squares, galleries and long-standing pubs.
  • Getting around: Sloane Square (District and Circle lines), with buses along the King’s Road and the Embankment.
  • Our apartments: none of our own yet; a Chelsea apartment comes from our curated list, by enquiry.

The area

Chelsea has been a place people move to rather than pass through since the artists arrived in the nineteenth century. It runs from Sloane Square down the King’s Road to World’s End, with the river along its southern edge and the Royal Hospital grounds, home to the Chelsea Flower Show each May, in the middle of it.

The streets behind the King’s Road are quiet and residential: terraces, mews and garden squares, the Chelsea Physic Garden behind its wall, the Saatchi Gallery at Duke of York Square. Cheyne Walk and the Embankment give the area a river frontage that most of central London does not have.

Nearby

North of the King’s Road, South Kensington holds the museums and the Royal Albert Hall. Sloane Street leads north from Sloane Square to Knightsbridge.

Getting around

  • Sloane Square station serves the District and Circle lines, and is the main station for the area.
  • The King’s Road buses run the length of Chelsea to the West End in one direction and Fulham in the other.
  • Imperial Wharf and West Brompton connect to the Overground and the District line at the western end.
  • Stamford Bridge, Chelsea Football Club’s ground, is at the western edge of the area at Fulham Road.

How a stay in Chelsea is arranged

Our own apartments are in Canary Wharf. An apartment in Chelsea comes from our curated list of luxury apartments across London, arranged by enquiry: you tell the concierge your dates, party and what matters, and our team confirms the apartment, whose it is, what it costs and the terms in writing before you commit to anything.

Around the stay we coordinate the rest of the visit: a chauffeur or airport transfer, restaurant reservations, a private jet through licensed operators, and hospitality at football, Formula 1 and concerts through providers who hold agreements with the clubs and promoters.
