Mayfair in short

  • Best for: shopping, dining and galleries, with the West End and Hyde Park on foot.
  • Character: Georgian squares, quiet streets, discreet members’ clubs and long-standing restaurants.
  • Getting around: Bond Street (Elizabeth, Jubilee, Central) and Green Park (Piccadilly, Jubilee, Victoria).
  • Our apartments: none of our own yet; a Mayfair apartment comes from our curated list, by enquiry.

The area

Mayfair holds the space between Hyde Park and Regent Street, and it has been London’s most expensive address for most of three centuries. The plan is Georgian: Grosvenor Square, Berkeley Square and Hanover Square, with the streets between them lined by galleries, tailors and restaurants that have been in place for decades.

Days here are quieter than the postcode suggests. Mount Street and Shepherd Market keep their village scale, the auction houses and dealers along New Bond Street run their own calendar of viewings, and the Royal Academy on Piccadilly sits at the southern edge. The noise of the West End begins a street or two away, and stops as soon as you turn back.

Nearby

North across Oxford Street, Marylebone keeps the same Georgian streets at a quieter, village pace. Across Hyde Park Corner to the south-west, Knightsbridge trades the galleries for the department stores and the park.

Getting around

  • Bond Street station serves the Elizabeth, Jubilee and Central lines, which puts Heathrow, the City and Canary Wharf on one train.
  • Green Park serves the Piccadilly, Jubilee and Victoria lines, and the Piccadilly line runs to Heathrow.
  • Hyde Park Corner and Marble Arch sit at the western corners, and the park is a few minutes’ walk from most of the area.
  • The theatres of the West End, the Royal Opera House and St James’s are all within a walk after dinner.

How a stay in Mayfair is arranged

Our own apartments are in Canary Wharf. An apartment in Mayfair comes from our curated list of luxury apartments across London, arranged by enquiry: you tell the concierge your dates, party and what matters, and our team confirms the apartment, whose it is, what it costs and the terms in writing before you commit to anything.

Around the stay we coordinate the rest of the visit: a chauffeur or airport transfer, restaurant reservations, a private jet through licensed operators, and hospitality at football, Formula 1 and concerts through providers who hold agreements with the clubs and promoters.
